With the travel restrictions in the country easing soon, you are probably itching to go for a short, memorable getaway. Janda Baik is just a short drive of about 40min from Kuala Lumpur and is tucked away in the hills of Pahang. It is also a moderate distance away from the more popular Genting Highlands. With easy access via Karak Highway, it is a perfect spot for city folks yearning to escape to nature and a cooling atmosphere.
Over the years, numerous hotels, chalets, resorts have opened at this location. However, it still maintains a sense of seclusion and natural surroundings. Here’s an updated list of great places where you can breathe in the cool breeze and recharge your soul and body over the weekend. I’m pretty sure you will find it refreshing and enjoyable. Let’s hope that we can put the pandemic behind us and support our local travel industry.

1. Cherengin Hills Convention & Spa Resort
Cherengin Hills Convention & Spa Resort is a family hotel at Janda Baik, resting on a hill crest overlooking the breathtaking views of Bukit Tinggi. The resort touts itself as the “Best sight-view resort in Janda Baik”, and judging by visitors’ comments, it’s not far from the truth. Immerse yourself in cool temperatures that will drop to 22°C by dawn, at an altitude of 600m – 800m above sea level.
This resorts’ dining area is set overlooking the panoramic scenery of Janda Baik and Bukit Tinggi. There’s also an outdoor grill house, named Bayu Terrace, for you to enjoy alfresco dining with succulent grilled dishes.
As for accommodation options, there are 4 choices of rooms depending on your needs. They have about 130 rooms in total. This resort has it’s own function hall and meeting rooms for you to conduct group events, seminars and banquets. There is also an outdoor pool if you want to take a dip.
2. Fifty4Ferns Resort
Located at the foothills of the mountain range of Janda Baik, Fifty4Ferns is the perfect getaway to nature, where tranquillity awaits you in an equally unique setting. Fifty4Fern sits at an altitude of 700 metres above sea level. One thing that visitors often say about Fifty4Ferns is tranquillity, yet well maintained. This place is a bit more secluded as it’s quite some ways through the small winding roads. However, you will be rewarded with a beautiful and well-equipped resort, away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Be prepared for a limited internet connection here, but I guess that’s the point of a tranquil getaway, right?
This resort has 24 well designed chalets, villas and cabins to cater for every demand. Enjoy the many facilities and activities offered there; fishing, swimming pool, ATV, bicycling, jacuzzi, karaoke, and more. There’s even a catch & cook freshwater fish activity offered. It’s definitely a great place for couples and families alike.
3. Bidaisari Resort
Bidaisari Resort, located not far off from Kampung Sum Sum Janda Baik, has a lot to offer. They have recently reopened their doors to welcome fully vaccinated visitors on 1st October. There’s few types of accommodations to choose from; Amongst them are a luxurious private bungalow for large families, a private bungalow overlooking the river, three water cottages, and 15 chalets for couples. One common comment often heard from visitors is the excellent & responsive customer service provided there.
You will not find a lack of nature activities here. The unique thing is you can go for horse-riding here as they have their own stables. This is a relatively new establishment, they opened in 2017. Check them out.
4. RUANG at Janda Baik
RUANG @Janda Baik is nestled within lush greeneries and dense rainforest. RUANG is a bungalow villa with 11 rooms available. According to its Facebook excerpt, “The humble abode bears the characteristics of an Eco-Industrial-Shabby-Chic-Eccentric-Open Concept, all rolled into one, which is appealing to the senses and inspires the adventurous.” There’s even a beautiful stream right at its doorstep, giving a sense of tranquillity and rejuvenating visitors.
As for dining, this humble abode doesn’t have a cafe or restaurant, but there are plenty of nearby foodstalls to visit. This place gives you a rustic welcoming feel, with the natural sound of flowing water.
5. 101 Resort & Spa
101 Resort & Spa is located beside a lovely stream where you can have quiet walks around the river. The environment and scenery are pleasant. It is an excellent place to relax, but note that this resort is probably a little aged. The facilities are well equipped with a pool, spa, cafe, and meeting rooms.
There are numerous rooms and sizes to choose from, and most of the bookings comes with breakfast included. A good place to relax with modern conveniences. The resort is currently under the management of OYO.
6. AmanRimba Private Estate
As the names implies, AmanRimba Private Estate prides itself in providing total privacy for individuals or families. A stay here means having the entire estate to yourself; no one but your guests will have acces during your stay. For Your Information, Aman Rimba is a Private Estate that has six private villas spread over three undulating acres, and can comfortably hold 20 pax, and up to 35 with rollaway beds, in thoughtfully-designed private rooms.
A common feedback from visitors is the staff service quality is top notch and attentive to visitors needs. It might be a bit pricey for some but how can we put a price on privacy right?
7. Embun Luxury Villas
Embun Luxury Villa – The name says it all. The villas are private, spacious and very comfortable. If you want to pamper your family with a luxurious experience at Janda Baik, this is a great choice. It has seven pool villas and one suite. For fresh, locally sourced ingredients and food, you can get it at their Cafe@Embun. Just be prepared to gain a couple of kilos when you depart.
In designing the resort, the owner has put much thought was to guarantee an intimate luxurious experience. The idea was to allow guests to escape the stress of daily life and reconnect with nature, and even if this escape was made with larger groups, each individual guest would still be able to claim their own space.
8. Tiara escapes Glamping Resort
Glamping is a recent popular trend, and if this is your cup of tea, Tiarasa Resort Glamping Park might be the choice for you. Escape to nature and stay in comfort in one of their 20 tented villas and five treetop villas. You’ll feel like Indiana Jones exploring the treasures of the hidden rainforest here. Although they are technically “tents”, you’ll still get to enjoy all the creature comforts such as king-sized beds, en-suite bathrooms and free WiFi to boot.
As for food, there are packed lunches available upon request. Traditional tea and kuih will be served at 4pm daily. Lastly, a bonfire roast will be held nightly from 7pm. You will definitelly find a lot of instagrammable memories here.
9. Saufiville Boutique Resort
Saufiville is a boutique resort that site 1800 ft above sea level on 12 acres of land. It is surrounded by breathtaking panoramic scenery, fresh air, and green jungles as far as the eyes can see. It is a boutique resort with six rooms, each with its unique design and 13 dormitories. Basic amenities such as a desk, fan, TV, and hot shower are included in each room. One thing most visitors agree with is that the views are amazing. There’s a private swimming pool too for guests to enjoy a dip overlooking the hills. However, note that the road heading to the resort might be a bit narrow, so please drive carefully.
10. Happy Paradise
The good news, this famous “paradise” is opening its doors to welcome visitors on 1st Oct 2021. Happy Paradise is an excellent place for a staycation. It has lots to offer, especially for families with little young ones. They have water slides, a petting zoo, horse riding and lots more. The rooms are clean, well kept and their friendly staff will make you feel at home.
They have a variety of accommodation options to suit most needs. They have chalets, rooms in bungalow house, individual single room house, tents and mongolia tents. All rooms come with breakfast, usage of their facilities and a visit to the animal farm. Check it out.
11. Mandara Tree Villas
Mandara Tree is located in Kampung Sum Sum, with the entire villa at your disposal, ensuring total privacy amidst the tranquil settings of Kampung Janda Baik. The Mandara Tree Family Villa sleeps 8-10 comfortably with one king bed, one queen bed, two single beds and a daybed. It has two rooms with a private terrace, a family lounge and a kitchenette. It also has its’ own spacious yard and BBQ pit.
This is a good place if you are looking to have the whole place to yourselves. However, one thing to note is to bring some extra food, snacks to munch on as this area is quite secluded. Basic amenities are provided.
12. Serene Resort & Training Centre
As the name suggests, this place is indeed serene. There’s a pool for children, and there are pools for adults to enjoy. It has beautiful views, and the stays are priced affordably. Many groups have conducted staff training, team buildings, and gatherings here. Outdoor activities are also aplenty, and they often include flying fox for free if you book a stay there.
The roads heading to it might be a bit narrow, so its best to drive carefully and during the day time. Serene Resort has about 30 chalets in total. The chalets remind you of Kampung life, if that’s your thing.
13. ēRYAbySURIA Janda Baik
ēRYAbySURIA Janda Baik is a hill house resort with 16 rooms. Small in size, it suits best guests who prefer privacy over anything else. Their restaurant serves a unique variety of mainly traditional Malay and Western dishes. Instead of a swimming pool, ēRYAbySURIA Janda Baik is situated near a small river perfect for guests who craves natural settings.
Guests can plan their own activities that include riding ATV, fishing and barbeque dinner that will be provided by the resort. Don’t forget to check out their orchard that blooms with various kinds of seasonal local fruits, including the king of fruits, Durian!
14. Canopy Villa Glamping Park
Canopy Villa is another glamping spot if you want to seek out living with nature in tents but with creature comforts included. Situated in Kampong Sum Sum, Canopy Villa Glamping Park features a shared lounge and free WiFi too. There is also a dining area and a kitchen equipped with a microwave and fridge. Guests at the tented camp can enjoy a buffet or an Asian breakfast.
There are fruit trees in the vicinity and you will be in for a treat if it is fruiting season. There are also other activities such as fishing, archery, cycling etc. A great place to be near to nature in comfort and style.
15. Al-Sakinah Resort
Al-Sakinah resort has reopened its doors to accept visitors. It’s a good place to enjoy the weekends, and facilities are adequate. Good for team building activities, and for those who loves nature.
They have a unique range of stays such as a lakeside villa (3-bedroom,fits 15), garden villa (3+1,fits 13), studio and riverlodge for small families. Each house has its own uniqueness for you to explore and enjoy.
16. Deruan Damai Private Resort
Translated literally, Deruan Damai means Peaceful Calls. It’s a nice place for a staycation, away from city pollution and congestion. The area is well kept, clean and of course, peaceful. You can have activities such as fishing, sightseeing, and a wading pool for kids.
They have a total of 13 rooms in various types for your selection.
Glasshouse325 is a bungalow unit located on a precipitous hillside above the Sum Sum River, 2000ft above sea level. The tall trees and mountains is truly a sight to behold as you sip a cup of tea at the balcony. The house has an open-plan design with free-flowing space vertically and horizontally. Extensive full-height glazing maximizes the connection to the surrounding forest and also captures natural light.
The entire house is for 10 pax but can fit up to 20 pax (additional costs for mattresses may apply). Breakfast is included for the first 10 pax, and you may also cook your own meals there at the kitchen. The nearest provision shop is about 5-10 minutes away, so be prepared. Due to the location, phone connectivitiy might be limited too.
18. Chengal Resort
Chengal Resort is a “rumah kampung” concept enclave with its private river for guests to enjoy. The uniquely designed chalets are a one of a kind experience. It’s an awesome conducive place to spend quality time with friends and family here.
There’s a campsite as well as chalets of different sizes available. It is an ideal place for family gatherings or reunions with a big natural pool cum fish pond which is safe for children to swim. The landscape is well designed and welcoming.
19. Intan Payung
Intan Payung is a hidden gem in Janda Baik. ‘Intan Payung’ is a private estate comprised of two beautifully decorated cottages surrounded by lush greenery, a river stream and a private pool. It can sleep up to a strict maximum of 15 pax. It is a cosy place and refreshing environment, surrounded by lush greenery and a small river stream next to the 1-acre compound. There is a private pool for guests to enjoy too.
You will have the whole area to yourselves, ensuring total privacy for guests. A perfect hideaway for nature lovers.
20. Sailor's Rest
Imagine living in a boat in the middle of the highlands? The most striking feature about this aptly named place is a boathouse for rent that is berthed alongside a wharf. The Bungalow, Houseboat, Modern Chalets and Kampung Chalets all include TV, electric kettle and a private bathroom with a shower. The Bungalow features a kitchenette with a refrigerator.
Guests can enjoy activities such as jungle trekking, fishing and cycling. Eateries are available within a 5 km drive. The caretakers of this place are helpful and friendly, so don’t hesitate any questions while you are there.
Enderong Resort is a well-known resort at Janda Baik. It has won acclaim for its architecture and design. You can enjoy the high-quality craftsmanship of the building as well as breath in the fresh air at this resort.
The Resort comprises Enderong House, the Annex Rooms, the Annexe Plus Rooms, The Cottage and Annexe Hall. As for food, Enderong Café is located below the Enderong House lower deck. They can serve up some of the best mix of western and local cuisine. Do take note that if there are elderly in your group, there’s no elevator so the only option is to use the stairs.
